Cinema Supervisor Cameo Picturehouse

The Cameo Picturehouse is one of the oldest running cinemas in Edinburgh, founded in 1914 as the King’s Cinema before being made into the Cameo in 1949. Originally an independent cinema, it was brought under the Picturehouse group in 2005 who have run it since. It is one of the most iconic venues within Edinburgh having hosted the likes of Orson Wells and Quentin Tarantino as well as working with a number of film festivals and organisations on a regular basis. It is commonly voted one of the Top 10 cinemas within the UK by The Guardian and TimeOut.

The cinema itself has 3 Screens. Cameo 1 being the largest screen including some of the cinema’s original masonry work. Cameo 2 & 3 are the more smaller screens built between the 1970s and 1990s. The Cinema also hosts one of the first Cinema Bars to be based within Edinburgh. The cinema is open for regular use, 7 days a week, as well as being available for hire and corporate events. During the week, we also host specialty screenings focused on audiences such as parent & child, elderly and d/Deaf & Autisim friendly.

Similar to my experience at The Scotsman Picturehouse, I started at the Cameo as a Customer Service Assistant with general tasks such as working on the Bar, Ushering and working our Box Office/Concessions Stand. Soon after, I was intervewed and successfully promoted to the role of Customer Service Supervisor (With step-up to Duty Manager). Day to day, I am working on the floor doing general tasks, supporting staff with training and advice, receiving deliveries and providing First Aid (in which I have been trained). When required, I will undertake the responsibilities of Duty Manager of the cinema which involves being responsable for the cinema’s management, cash handeling, health and safety, social media, email correspondence, customer service and complaints as well as undertaking responsibilities for projection and the running of screenings.
