Cinema Supervisor The Scotsman Picturehouse

The Scotsman Picturehouse opened it’s doors to the public in August 2019 as a new boutique independent cinemas as apart of the G1 Group in Scotland. A hidden gem within The Scotsman Hotel, the cinema would open daily screening current films along side older classics and events with organisations such as the French Film Festival UK. The space also hosted conferences and events for a number of clients and organisations.

The cinema itself can sit up to 45 people and has equipment for cinema screenings, HDMI projection, Air Play and satellite television. Apart from the back row, which hosts couches fit for two people, each row has an individual couch with side table for refreshments along with ottomans for the front row. The Cinema also includes a small bar & foyer with tables and couches. This is usually used for guests on arrival or could be used for receptions for events. The cinema ran on a model of Dinner & Show experience, this meant that tickets included a meal before the film which took place in our sister venue, The Grand Cafe. This could be brunch, Afternoon Tea or Dinner which included a drink and your ticket. Additionally, guests where able to get a general ticket which included a popcorn and drink as well.

I started at The Scotsman Picturehouse when it first opened as a Cinema Assistant, supporting the cinema in creating amazing audience experiences especially in our test screenings and our first few weeks open. Soon after, as management changed and left, I was promoted to the Cinema Supervisor where, under the direction of G1 Group’s Cinema Operations Manager, I was responsible for the day-to-day running of the cinema. This involved training and managing our small staff, managing drinks and concessions stock, managing film prints & schedules including programming, social media management and providing excellent customer service.

I am incredibly proud of my time in The Scotsman Picturehouse. I feel I was able to learn more about our industry and develop my skills and knowledge especially in providing experiences and good business practices. In particular, I was regularly commended and rewarded for my excellent customer service, providing an amazing cinema experience and being regularly mentioned on our TripAdvisor which I also helped manage.
